Yesterday, our Civics class had the opportunity to attend County Government Day at the Kimball County Courthouse—and what an outstanding experience it was!

Students participated in a full morning of sessions led by county officials, learning firsthand how local government operates. From property valuation and taxes to motor vehicle services, marriage licenses, records storage, the role of County Commissioners, the County and District Court system, the Veteran's Service Program, maintenance of county roads and the local UNL Extension Office, our students gained a deeper understanding of the systems that serve our community. They even experienced a few hands-on moments—stepping briefly into a jail cell, observing how a 911 call is handled, and watching a taser demonstration (no one was harmed!). The day culminated at the Kimball County Transit Building where students were treated to a delicious lunch, learned about the Kimball County Transit and played a trivia game demonstrating their knowledge gained throughout the morning.

The day was incredibly well organized, thanks to the leadership of County Clerk Cathy Sibal and County Assessor Sherry Winstrom. Mrs. Sibal has dedicated 30 years to supporting this program. As she prepares for retirement, we are especially grateful for her commitment to educating generations of Kimball students. A big thank you as well to Mrs. Ferguson and all county officials and employees who invested their time and energy to make this such a meaningful experience.

I also want to commend our students for how they represented Kimball Jr/Sr High School. They were engaged, asked thoughtful questions, showed appreciation, and demonstrated respect throughout the day. We are proud of you!

Opportunities like this remind us how strong our community is—and how bright the future is for our students!
