KPS Parents and Patrons,
Based on the law enforcement events in the city of Kimball today, I wanted to remind everyone of our Standard Response Protocols (a picture is attached of the protocols) at KPS. KPS was not in a lockdown today as was reported by various media outlets; however, KPS was in a "Secure" setting with monitored entry for a period of time this morning as there was an ongoing search by law enforcement in our community. This led to there being no open campus for our junior/ senior high school students as local law enforcement requested that students stay on-site so as not to interfere with their activities. Upon receiving notification from county law enforcement officials that there was no longer a threat in the community, a notification was sent from KPS informing parents and patrons of a regular dismissal today. Student safety has been, and will continue to be, our top priority at KPS and we will utilize our communication channels (website, social media, text messages, etc.) to communicate any events that may impact student safety at KPS to all parents and patrons. If you have any questions regarding our Standard Response Protocols at KPS, please contact Superintendent Trevor Anderson at: tanderson@kpslonghorns.org or (308)235-2188.
Kimball Public Schools will dismiss students at regularly scheduled times today as the law enforcement situation in the city of Kimball has been resolved per Kimball County law enforcement officials.
Due to an ongoing law enforcement situation in the city of Kimball, Kimball Public Schools will have NO open campus lunch for students at the Junior/ Senior High School. In addition, extra precautions are in place at district facilities until this law enforcement situation is resolved.

This message is for parents and students of Kimball Public Schools from the Nebraska SMART program.
Nebraska SMART is a free virtual tutoring program for students in grades K-12. Teacher education candidates from Chadron State, Peru State, and Wayne State Colleges remotely tutor students in Educational Service Units 1, 4, and 13 through an online tutoring platform. This program is made possible by a Nebraska Department of Education grant awarded to the Nebraska State College System to launch a rural tutoring program.
Nebraska SMART’s official launch date to tutor students in grades K-12 is February 5, 2024. Tutoring hours are 3:30-6:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
The Nebraska SMART Video can be viewed for more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSd1-uvSJHQ
Parents who wish to gain access to tutoring must register their child(ren) by visiting www.nscs.edu/NebraskaSMART.
Parents must first create an account and register their child(ren). Once parents have created their account and added their child(ren), the student (or parent on their behalf) can schedule a tutoring appointment. Students can also join on-demand tutoring to be connected with the next available Tutor.
The Parent Guide provides steps for parents to register their child(ren), schedule a session, request on-demand tutoring, and more.
Students should provide homework for which they wish to receive help or topics that they would like to cover. When connected to a Tutor, students (or parents on their behalf) can share files with their Tutor. It is recommended that students (or parents on their behalf) have saved their homework to their computer prior to connecting to a Tutor.
The Nebraska SMART tutoring platform can be accessed via a laptop, desktop, or Chromebook. Please note that smartphones and some tablets are not currently supported by this platform.
We look forward to serving your students through online tutoring!
