Yeehaw, partner! Saddle up, because we're galloping through an action-packed week at the Kimball Jr/Sr High School! We've lassoed in our first full week of school, and it's shaping up to be a wild ride of excitement and team spirit that even the Longhorns would be proud of.
Giddy up and join us today as the Girls Golf team takes a swing in Sidney – they're teeing off with the kind of finesse that would make any Longhorn jealous. But hold onto your 10-gallon hats, because Thursday is like a rodeo of events! The Girls Golf team is showing off their prowess in Bayard, while the Volleyball team is spiking their way to victory in a Hemingford triangular showdown. Not to be outdone, the Cross Country team is hoofing it in Scottsbluff – a race that's sure to have more twists and turns than a Texas trail. And just when you thought the excitement couldn't get any bigger, Friday arrives with the Football team charging onto the field in Hyannis, ready to show everyone that Longhorns not only have horns but also plenty of heart.
But wait, there's more! Our first day at Kimball Jr/Sr High School was a hootin' and hollerin' good time. We wrangled the students together for an opening assembly where we cracked down on the school rules – after all, even Longhorns need to know the lay of the land. And what's a school without a fight song to make your heart beat like the rhythm of hooves on the open range? The cheerleaders wrangled up some school spirit that could make a Longhorn jump for joy.
But the fun didn't stop there, partner. We herded the students on a wild schedule scavenger hunt, where they rustled up their classrooms and met their trusty teachers. Each teacher had a trick or two up their sleeve, and as the students completed their tasks, their schedules were stamped like a proud ranch brand and handed over to the office. Talk about a stampede of excitement! Plus, to sweeten the deal, two lucky students – one junior high and one senior high – got the chance to pick a day and period this quarter for their class to corral some delicious donuts.
Hold onto your spurs, because the ranch sorting was like a stampede of camaraderie. Our 7th graders and newcomers got welcomed into their new ranches with a colorful 'branding' ceremony – paint-dipped brands, mind you, we're all about safety! After our ranches were rounded up and raring to go, we rustled up some ranch challenges. Ever seen a pie eating contest? Eight ranch members, including a brave teacher, dug in with a relay-style feast that would make Longhorns proud. Callow Cattle Ranch took the crown on that one. Friday’s ranch challenges came with a special twist that turned up the volume on our excitement. The radio station KIMB 104.3 joined us right here in the heart of the action, broadcasting live from our Student Center.
And just when you thought the dust was settling, it was time for a good ol' fashioned scavenger hunt. Each ranch was handed nine riddle-packed envelopes, leading them to hidden treasures across our stompin' grounds. Students dashed to retrieve their letters and raced back to their ranches to solve the riddles, spelling out the grand prize: LONGHORNS. Hidden Valley Ranch outdid themselves, clinching the scavenger hunt gold.
But we weren't done wrangling just yet. Ranches lined up for a hula hoop challenge that required some mighty fine teamwork – passing that hoop without breaking a sweat or a handshake. Almosta Ranch proved to be the speediest in this showdown. Wrapping up the day, ranches trotted into individual classrooms for some good ol' fashioned get-to-know-you games. Meanwhile, the Student Center was prepped for the grand finale, and let me tell you, it's a doozy.
Hold onto your hats, because we hit a bullseye with our collective testing goal in the spring. And guess what? Mr. Anderson put his noggin on the line and got his head shaved – all thanks to three courageous members of the Superintendent Advisory Council. Phew, talk about a wild ride! It was a day packed tighter than a Longhorn's curling horns, but every last one of us left with a pep in our step and a whole herd of enthusiasm for kicking off the school year with a big, hearty "Yeehaw!"
